Two things about me have always been certain: I have always been the “peanut allergy kid” and I’ve always want to see the world. I was first told I had a life-threatening peanut allergy in 1993 which is where this journey first began.

I have since visited places I didn’t think I would have been able to, and still hope to see more. There isn’t any foolproof way of doing this and I accept the risk each time but I have definitely learned a few tips along the way. Her Allergic Travels and our new travel app are about sharing these experiences. The world might be in lockdown and we don’t know when travel will open back up, but we’ll be planning our next trip in the meantime and you can too! Our journey began in 1993…

Peanut Allergies in the 1990s
Growing up in a small Canadian city during the 90s, it seemed like I was the only anaphylactic peanut allergy in my town. My doctors panicked and blundered, my shy mother had to show teachers how to use EpiPens.

That Trip To France…

… which left without me. I had the travel bug from the moment I can remember and my grade 8 french class presented the opportunity to finally make that happen. Fundraising, calendar marking, etudie les frances…. and the discovery of “Lupin Flour” Needless to say… my ever protective parents made a decisive call at the last minute and I stayed a chez moi.

Finally… the flood gates. From Cuba to Asia

Rice, fruit snacks, and Havana Club Rum. All an 18-year-old needed to start out on a world of adventure from Varadero to the Sydney Oprah hours. We traveled to China and Bali with a peanut allergy and eventually a large portion of Europe. It was not without it’s struggles and I actually had to skip certain countries like Vietnam but we’re working hard and making it happen again in the future for us and you too!
